Job summary

City of Toronto is seeking a part-time Dance Instructor (Line Dance) for the Scarborough District winter session. You will deliver age-appropriate line dance lessons, prepare curricula, ensure equipment readiness and supervise assistants while engaging with participants and the public.

The role requires a valid PHCD certification (provided if needed) and a current First Aid certificate, with training completed as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be minimum 16 years of age.
• Demonstrated ability to teach appropriate age group; line dance ability (audition); leadership training or volunteer experience.
• Formal training and experience or post secondary qualifications in a related field is an asset.
• Must attend mandatory and in-service training sessions; provide Basic First Aid certification.
• PHCD certification is mandatory and provided after conditional offer.

Responsibilities

• Instructs safe and enjoyable age-appropriate lessons that meet the needs of a variety of ages.
• Prepares lesson plans based on program curriculum prior to the start of the program session.
• Ensures supplies and equipment list is provided prior to start of session to the appropriate supervisor.
• Ensures equipment is in place and operational before class starts.
• Cleans and stores supplies and equipment after each class.
• Trains, oversees and evaluates assistant instructors or volunteers.
• Interacts with the public and internal staff to provide program information.
• Follows safety guidelines and program policies, and completes administrative tasks (attendance, incident and accident reports).
• Follows HIGH FIVE principles in planning and delivering programs.

Qualifications

• Must be minimum 16 years of age.
• Demonstrated ability to teach appropriate age group, demonstrated dance ability (audition), leadership training or volunteer experience.
• Formal training and experience or post secondary qualifications in a related field is an asset.
• Must attend and successfully complete related mandatory and in-service training sessions).
• Must produce original current Basic First Aid certification as recognized by the WSIB.
• You possess certification in Parks and Recreation Ontario's Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD). This is a mandatory course that will be provided to you at no cost upon obtaining a conditional offer of employment. You will be provided with course dates and details at that time.
