Qualifications

About The Role

The Customs Coordinator will be responsible for managing all service parts and vehicle inbound receipt discrepancies within our Customs system, Integration Point. This task will ensure Volkswagen Group Canada remains compliant with all duties and taxes paid to Canada Customs. This role will also be responsible for flagging and processing corrections of any overpayments so refunds/credits can be applied to the monthly payment to CBSA.

This is a flex hybrid work structure, where employees can work both remotely and on-site at our St. Thomas location.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the Customs and Logistics department to maintain trusted trader relationships with Canada Customs.
  2. Review, match, and close manual Customs entries with their corresponding receipt files to maintain accurate trade data.
  3. Investigate overage receipts and create files to reconcile misallocated receipt files.
  4. Review and investigate receipt discrepancies to identify shortages, overages, or other issues requiring reconciliation.
  5. Use Excel to format claim and correction files for Customs Broker to file adjustments.
  6. Collaborate with the Customs Manager to support administrative and operational tasks related to importation of parts and vehicles.
  7. Support project teams with SIMA and anti-dumping penalty analysis.
  8. Assist in analyzing customs duties for project-related imports of equipment and construction materials.
  9. Coordinate with customs broker companies for import/export activities.
  10. Establish procedures and regulations for customs processes.
  11. Work closely with the customs team in PowerCo SE Germany.
  12. Support export control management and sanction list screening.

What You Bring To The Team

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. 3+5 years’ experience working as an importer or customs broker.
  3. Certification as a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or CITT-Certified Logistics Professional (CCLP) is an asset.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with SAP is required.
  5. Ability to interpret customs documentation and commercial invoices accurately.
  6. Knowledge of customs regulations, procedures, and compliance for international trade.
  7. Strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and teamwork abilities.
  8. Effective prioritization and multitasking skills.
  9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  10. Analytical skills to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.

Desired Skills

  1. German language skills are considered an asset.
  2. Understanding of supply chain management principles and customs regulations.
  3. Knowledge of logistics, inventory management, procurement, and distribution processes.
