Valiant TMS, a global leader in manufacturing, automation, and tooling solutions, is hiring a Customs Analyst to join our team in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Reporting to the Customs Leader, you will play a critical role in facilitating the compliant and efficient movement of goods across international borders, ensuring that all shipments adhere to applicable regulations and internal standards.

As a Customs Analyst, you’ll manage import and export activities, collaborate with brokers and internal stakeholders, and ensure our customs processes are executed with accuracy, timeliness, and full regulatory compliance.

This is a 6-month contract position, with the potential for extension or transition to full-time employment.

What You’ll Get To Do

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments across international borders, ensuring compliance with customs documentation and procedures.
  • Ensure full compliance with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, including CBSA’s CARM portal.
  • Acquire and manage USMCA / CUSMA certificates and respond to customer inquiries related to trade agreements.
  • Review and audit import / export documentation for accuracy before submission to customs authorities.
  • Classify goods using both Canadian and U.S Tariff Schedules and ensure accuracy in duty rates and origin status.
  • Liaise with Canadian and U.S. customs brokers to facilitate efficient shipment clearance.
  • Work with customs agents, brokers, carriers, and internal departments to resolve shipment issues and ensure timely product movement.
  • Review broker invoices, verify charges, and ensure accurate duty application and auditing of related customs entries.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of export declarations through the Canadian Export Reporting System (CERS).
  • Report deviations, maintain accurate records for audit readiness, and support refund or amendment filings when needed.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education & Experience :
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation preferred; experienced candidates in the process of certification will also be considered.
  • Previous experience in customs compliance in a manufacturing or machine tool environment is an asset.
  • Technical Knowledge :
  • Strong understanding of Canadian and U.S. customs laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with Harmonized Tariff classification, valuation, and international documentation (e.g. Commercial Invoice / CCI, CERS, Mill Test Reports, FTA and Non-Preferential Certificates Of Origin, Import / Export Permits).
  • Experience with purchased parts and components related to the machine tool or automation industry is an asset.
  • Familiarity with SAP and customs brokerage platforms preferred.
  • Attention to Detail & Compliance :
  • Meticulous reviewers who ensure complete and accurate entries and challenge incorrect assessments when needed.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to audit documentation and manage multiple shipments and tasks simultaneously.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating with purchasing, shipping / receiving, accounting, and project teams.
  • Clear communicators who can confidently liaise with brokers, customs agents, and internal stakeholders.
  • Work Authorization : Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Travel to the U.S. may occasionally be required.
