Customer Serviceman I - Meter Shop

(Term)

The Public Operations Department, Water and Wastewater Section, is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the term position ofCustomer Serviceman Iin the department’s Meter shop. The Customer Serviceman plays a frontline role in ensuring that all aspects of water meter functions for residential and commercial service operate effectively and efficiently. This position works as support to all functions of the meter shop and performs other related duties as required.

Wage: $29.33 per hour

Term: Approximately 4 months

Hours: 40 hours per week

Responsibilities:

·Reads water meters on assigned routes and record readings

·Complete Water Meter data entry so accounts and files are updated

·Provides information as is appropriate and tactfully responds to resident inquiries and complaints

·Provide Support to Customer Serviceman II on the Trouble Truck

·The operation of curb stands

·Thawing frozen lines

·Installing temporary water supply lines

·Manual labour in the meter shop as required

·Responds to questions and concerns from the general public

·Investigating water related customer complaints/inquiries

We are interested in individuals with the following skills and abilities:

·Working knowledge of Meter Shop operations, including experience in performing locates

·Excellent customer service skills in dealing with the public, sometimes under difficult circumstances

·The ability to work independently

·A high school diploma or equivalent

·Physical strength and dexterity to perform work in all types of weather from extreme heat to extreme cold, as well as damp and wet conditions

·Strong customer service skills are critical for success in this role

·This role is a supporting position. The incumbent must be a great team player and will to help wherever required within the meter shop.

·The incumbent will communicate with confidence and steadiness during difficult times; adapt readily to new situations

·The incumbent will listen to others and communicate in an effective manner that fosters open communication.

·A valid class 5 Operator’s license

·Preference will be given to candidates who possess Level I certification in Water Distribution, or who are able to attain this certification within the time frames outlined by Alberta Environment.
