Job Description

The Customer Service & Operations Coordinator (CSOC) organizes the safe and efficient handling of all traffic between various terminals with a strong focus on customer service. This role facilitates the entire process from a customer inquiry until delivery to the customer has been completed. The CSOC is responsible for efficient loading and offloading of traffic, including ramp operation for vessel arrival and departures, entry of bills of lading (BOL) into the system, and addressing customers’ queries.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 850 Jackson Road, Nanaimo.

What You'll Do
  1. Handle reservations from one terminal to another.
  2. Recognize when reservations are not met, or customers are late, and follow up on the issues.
  3. Book additional business to increase revenue and maximize vessel utilization.
  4. Assist with payments for all walk-up customers, ensuring transaction completeness and accuracy.
  5. Take inventory of all trailers on the terminal and track all inbound units to ensure customers can track their inventory using our online system.
  6. Coordinate all daily terminal activities in accordance with the terminal SOP.
  7. Maintain full certification for handling dangerous goods units and ensure terminals are upholding safety and compliance requirements.
  8. Ensure all vessels are loaded to the best capacity possible within the turnaround times allowed in the service schedule.
  9. Follow safety procedures and ensure customers follow safety requirements during loading and unloading.
  10. Review and enter information into the BOL system to facilitate accurate invoicing.
  11. Monitor marine weather station, keep the operation and customers updated on adverse weather conditions, and possible schedule revisions.
  12. Perform additional duties as required.
What You'll Bring
  1. Completion of Grade 12 education plus a Certificate in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) is an asset.
  2. Minimum 2 years of logistics and customer service experience (Marine or Transportation industry preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Knowledge of terminal operations and marine transportation.
  4. Physical ability to manage outside activities, including yard audits and occasional driving on and off vessels.
  5. Customer service skills with an emphasis on effective communication.
  6. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  7. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to improve processes.
  8. Ability to process detailed information consistently.
  9. Intermediate computer skills (MS Office).
  10. Time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks from various customers.
  11. Ability to resolve issues professionally while ensuring all work tasks are completed in a timely fashion.

The estimated hourly rate for this position is $30.67. In determining the hourly rate, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skillset and experience, as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
