Job description

Magnet Search Group is assisting a leading Consumer Products Organization (food focused) in finding a Customer Insights Manager to join their Commercial team.

This role involves analyzing shopper, retailer, and consumer data to evaluate the performance of company brands within a category for specific retailers. The goal is to understand which elements of the marketing mix (pricing, promotion, assortment, shelving, competition) are driving results. Additionally, the manager will create fact-based stories that provide solutions for opportunities identified through periodic reviews or reviews led by Finance or Customer Business Teams.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze customer-specific data weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually to identify performance opportunities and recommend solutions to close gaps.
  2. Conduct retailer-driven category reviews integrating POS and consumer data to establish strategies for assortment, pricing, promotion, and shelving aligned with retailer and business strategies.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with Category Managers, Directors, and Strategic Merchandising Teams within the retailer organization.
  4. Share global best practices and category trends with Retailer’s Category Managers to influence category performance.
  5. Collaborate with Customer Business Teams and Retailer’s Category Managers to develop retailer-specific solutions for closing performance gaps and creating compelling stories for sales execution.
  6. Provide recommendations for assortment and implement shelf strategies, including creating base plan-o-grams or plan-o-guides.
  7. Develop category plans for priority categories aligned with retailer and brand strategies, defining category roles, optimal assortment, distribution, and shelving.
  8. Create selling presentations to showcase brand performance and highlight opportunities with specific recommendations.
  9. Deliver insights explaining current performance and the impact of implemented tactics.
  10. Continuously evaluate the category within the retailer to identify new opportunities for our brands.
  11. Work collaboratively across teams to create solutions addressing business issues or opportunities.
  12. Share best practices across business units and teams.
  13. Proactively identify and resolve potential business, category, or SKU-level issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of experience in Category Management and at least 1 year of account-level sales experience in a CPG environment preferred.
  • Proficiency with retailer POS Data systems and Nielsen tools (Answers Desktop, Answers, Numerator panel data) is essential.
  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to manage large datasets.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple data sources into clear, understandable presentations.
  • Provide strong, actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • Effective team player capable of working across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Proactive, performance-driven, with a bias for action, able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
