Job summary

South Country Co-op in Medicine Hat, AB is seeking a friendly Cashier for Northlands Food Store. You will operate the cash register and support merchandising while delivering excellent customer service.

The role requires reliability, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment. Full availability including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is expected.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old and have completed Grade 9.
• Familiarity with cash registers, scanners, and POS systems preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently.
• Comfortable using electronic equipment (money counters, barcode scanners).
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Able to deal with customers and team members sensitively, tactfully, and diplomatically.
• High integrity and strong work ethic.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt.
• Detail-oriented and able to manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash registers, process transactions, and handle various payment methods.
• Provide exceptional customer service to ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Assist with merchandising, including stocking shelves and displaying packaged products.
• Maintain a clean and organized checkout area, adhering to safety and housekeeping standards.
• Handle lottery services, cheque cashing, and apply fresh product codes as needed.
• Support overall store operations as directed by the Grocery Manager.
• Educate customers on the benefits of membership in South Country Co-op.
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
• Other duties as assigned.
