Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is seeking a sales-focused professional to champion customer relationships, grow both Maple Leaf Foods and the customer business, and apply category management expertise across North America.

You will lead joint business planning, forecast, and trade fund activities, using Nielsen/IRI data to craft winning strategies and drive profitable, sustainable growth.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of retail food industry or consumer packaged goods sales experience.
  • University degree in business preferred.
  • Strong commercial sense and industry knowledge.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Category Management expertise.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reach and exceed internal commitments for volume, profit and trade spend ROI.
  • Understand customer strategy and build strong relationships beyond daily transactions.
  • Drive profitable growth via pricing, promotion and display.
  • Lead joint business planning, negotiation, forecasting and reviews.
  • Sell using data sources like Nielsen and IRI to craft selling strategies.
  • Manage Maple Leaf and customer P&Ls with financial awareness.
  • Develop expertise in products, industry and category management.
  • Coordinate with marketing, insights, shopper marketing, field sales and finance.
  • Travel weekly and occasionally overnight as required.
  • Set stretch targets and strategically grow the business.

The Opportunity

A champion and advocate for MLF and customer(s). Responsible for developing and strengthening customer relationships, managing and growing both MLF and customer’s business, and bringing category management knowledge and expertise to our customers

Reason for vacancy: Existing Headcount

Compensation: $96,000 - $141,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.

  • Reach and exceed internal commitments such as such as volume, profit, and trade spend ROI.
  • Understand customer’s strategy and build strong relationships beyond daily transactional interactions.
  • Achieve profitable growth through the understanding and manipulation of key sales fundamentals, distribution, pricing, promotion and display.
  • Lead the complete sales process through joint business planning, negotiation, forecasting, trade fund management, volume incentive planning, gap closing, and business reviews.
  • Sell in a fact-based way utilizing various sources of available data such as Nielsen and IRI to diagnose the business and turn insights into selling strategies.
  • Demonstrate and build upon basic financial acumen through the understanding and management of Maple Leaf and customer P&Ls
  • Passionately acquire strong knowledge and expertise in our products, industry and the category management so that you become the customer’s consultant on the business.
  • Exercise strong multi-functional leadership both internally and at the customer by frequent and proactive engagement of available resources to deliver the business, i.e.: marketing, insights, shopper marketing, field sales, category sales development, finance, demand planning and supply chain.
  • Local travel required on a regular weekly basis and some overnight travel might be required.
  • Develop stretch targets; meet or exceed plans.
