Pacifica Treatment Centre (Pacifica), founded in 1977, is an innovative charitable sector society that

provides gender-inclusive in-residence treatment and community-based supportive recovery-focused

services for individuals experiencing challenges associated with problematic substance use, in

conjunction with concurrent mental health concerns and trauma.

Pacifica provides a comprehensive range of services designed to support personalized recovery goals,

enhancing the quality of life and well-being for individuals. Our offerings include :

  • Pre-engagement services and system navigation
  • Primary treatment with a 27-bed in-residence facility
  • Programs focusing on resiliency and trauma
  • Integrative wellness initiatives

At the core of our approach is an interdisciplinary team that employs a trauma-informed therapeutic

community model. This approach empowers individuals to take charge of their recovery journey,

fostering self-discovery, self-empowerment, and self-actualization. We achieve this through a

combination of therapeutic counseling, educational initiatives, and supportive services, all aimed at

strengthening not just the individuals but also their families and communities.

Nature and Scope of Work

This position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and overall upkeep of our facility’s

washrooms, bedrooms, and common areas. Work is performed under general supervision and requires

attention to detail and adherence to established cleaning protocols and schedules. The successful

candidate is expected to prioritize tasks based on immediate needs and ensure all areas are consistently

maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.

Key responsibilities include stocking supplies, removing waste, cleaning floors, and preparing bedrooms

for new occupants. The work may involve lifting, standing for extended periods, and working with

cleaning agents and equipment. This role reports to the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor.

Illustrative Examples of Work

  • Clean and sanitize all washroom fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors, ensuring they are

hygienic and presentable at all times.

  • Ensure all washroom dispensers (e.g., paper towels, toilet paper, soap) are checked and fully

stocked throughout the shift.

  • Empty and properly dispose of garbage, recycling, and organics from all bins as needed to

prevent overflow and odor.

  • Strip used bedding from vacated bedrooms, dispose of soiled linens, and make up beds with

fresh linen promptly to prepare rooms for new occupants.

  • Vacuum and mop all flooring in common areas and bedrooms as required, addressing spills and

dirt promptly to maintain cleanliness and prevent accidents.

  • Monitor and report any maintenance or supply issues (e.g., broken dispensers, clogged toilets)

to the appropriate department.

  • Follow health and safety regulations and internal policies related to cleaning procedures and the

handling of waste.

  • Replenish cleaning supplies and maintain storage areas in an organized manner.
  • Participate in routine deep cleaning schedules and assist in seasonal or special cleaning projects

as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience : Previous experience in a janitorial, housekeeping, or custodial role is an asset but not

required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently.
  • Good time management and prioritization skills.
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment use.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, bend, kneel, reach, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to immediate cleaning needs.
  • Comfort working in an in-residence treatment setting and communicating respectfully with

clients and staff
