Custodial Service Operations ManagerNATURE AND SCOPE OF WORKThe Service Operations Manager is responsible for the day to day supervision of custodial staff and for coordinating, inspecting and providing training for safe and effective custodial work methods and practices.
Required Knowledge, Abilities And Skills- Provides day to day supervising, coordinating and scheduling of custodial and replacement custodial staff and approves ADT for custodial employees.
- Coordinates staffing of custodial department, including development of stints, layoffs, summer and Christmas Break cleaning programs.
- Inspects work sites and ensures general safety of buildings as required to maintain effective and safe housekeeping and security services in accordance with acceptable industrial practice and government regulations.
- Maintains contact with building administrators and employees in matters relating to housekeeping, security, accident prevention and occupational health and safety.
- Interviews applicants and recommends individuals for hiring and promotion.
- Instructs staff in effective custodial methods and practices, and in safe and efficient use of equipment and supplies.
- Develops and implements training programs and writes procedural materials for custodial staff.
- Co-ordinates set ups for special events (elections, community forums, district wide Pro D's).
- Monitors and reports on Custodial Staff Labour Budgets, Operating Supplies Budgets.
- Coordinates services of outside custodial contract services (ie window cleaning, gym floor refinishing).
- Maintains an inventory of janitorial equipment.
- Conducts tests and makes recommendations on new cleaning materials, equipment and methods, coordinates custodial equipment maintenance and replacement.
- Supervises, inspects and evaluates CUPE employees as required, and completes probation, trial period and performance reviews of CUPE employees.
- Participates in grievance resolution and collective bargaining as required.
- Works with members of the Facilities and Planning Department as required.
Desirable Training And Experience- Two year post secondary education in relevant discipline in facilities management, hospitality or business management or related field.
- Class 5 driver's license required.
- Five years of relevant experience; managing in a unionized environment, hospitality, custodial, post -secondary industry experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and chemicals, as well as safety protocols.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements related to custodial operations.
- Must have multiple years of experience working in leadership roles in a unionized labor setting.
The salary range for this position is $96,965 to $103,000 per year.
