A healthcare regulatory organization in Edmonton is seeking a Curriculum Instructional Designer to develop high-quality learning resources for Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides. This full-time position offers a hybrid work model and requires a strong background in nursing and instructional design. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating engaging educational materials and must demonstrate excellent project management and mentoring skills. Applications are due by January 11, 2026.
The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) is a non‑profit regulatory organization. The CLPNA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. We regulate the profession of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), setting and maintaining standards to ensure the public receives safe, competent, and ethical healthcare services. Our focus and commitment to public protection and regulatory excellence underscores everything we do. The CLPNA has partnered with the Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services to lead the development and the continued operations of the Alberta Health Care Aide (HCA) Directory. In Alberta, HCAs are not a regulated profession, although HCAs will become regulated under the Health Professions Act in the future.
This is a full‑time, permanent appointment. The position is eligible for hybrid work, with a requirement to work in our Edmonton office on a regular weekly basis.
Reporting to the Director, Professional Development, the Curriculum Instructional Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining learning resources and evaluation tools that support the continuing competence and safe practice of LPNs and HCAs. The primary role of this position is to ensure that the learning resources align with strategic goals, the department's regulatory framework, and adult learning best practices, meeting the learning needs of LPNs and HCAs.
Collaborating with the Professional Development Department and internal collaborators, the Curriculum Instructional Designer applies adult learning methodologies, such as the ADDIE model, to craft high‑quality, engaging, and interactive learning resources that meet the unique needs of our registrants. This position requires a balance of creativity, attention to visual/accessibility standards, and design mastery.
As the Curriculum Instructional Designer, you have a natural ability to draw from your nursing experience and create content that you bring to life in a visual story. You are passionate about writing and designing learning resource materials, activities, and assessments that are engaging, interactive, and informative. You are resourceful, solution‑oriented, and work well independently and as a team member with a positive and professional attitude. You are diligent in your review, present with effective time and project management skills, and can lead others in a fast‑paced environment. You are a strong leader, providing guidance, mentorship, and development to a group of professionals. You are self‑aware and apply your critical thinking skills to ensure processes align with the strategic vision and goals of the project. You conduct your work autonomously, collaborating and communicating with colleagues appropriately and effectively. You are knowledgeable about trends and issues that may impact HCAs, LPNs, and/or healthcare on a provincial and national level.
