Reporting to the Heritage Services Coordinator, the Curatorial Attendant will be responsible for assisting with the registration, cataloguing, and care of the City of Richmond Hill's Historical Collection. The role includes supporting the design and installation of exhibitions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with cataloguing the Richmond Hill Historical Collection to meet the Standards for Museums required by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the City of Richmond Hill.
- Classify and label artifacts, conduct research, complete required forms, maintain files, and assist staff and volunteers.
- Support staff and volunteers with exhibition design, installation, interpretation, and customer service at programs and events.
- Understand and adhere to the Collections Management and Conservation Policies and Procedures of the City of Richmond Hill, handling all artifacts, archival, art, and archaeological materials professionally as per policy.
- Perform database entry and digital imaging.
- Ensure the safe storage of the collection and maintain cleanliness and organization of the storage facility.
- Secure the storage facility by locking all doors and windows before leaving at the end of the shift.
- Report any serious issues or concerns to the Heritage Services Coordinator/Heritage Services Assistant – Curatorial/Education.
- Represent the City of Richmond Hill in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
- Arrive at work promptly.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Education in art, history, or museum studies is an asset.
