CURATORIAL ASSISTANT – Art Museum

(Casual)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Art Museum is hiring a Casual Curatorial Assistant to assist with the daily operations and exhibition-related activities of the Art Museum.

The Curatorial Assistant will assist the staff of the West Vancouver Art Museum, which builds awareness of diverse forms of contemporary and historical art, architecture, and design, engaging audiences with issues and ideas central to the community and the world beyond. The Curatorial Assistant will work as part of a team to realize exhibitions and related projects, including publications and programming. This is clerical, manual and research work assisting a supervisor with curatorial duties at the West Vancouver Art Museum. The Curatorial Assistant will conduct research tasks on collections and exhibits as directed; assist a supervisor in the coordination of artworks and projects; and create engaging written material as needed. A Curatorial Assistant will clean exhibit and display areas; pack, move and transport items as required, perform data entry, support the coordination and documentation of WVAM projects, and general clerical duties. Performs other related duties as required.

The Ideal Candidate Will
  • have studied or is currently enrolled in graduate or undergraduate studies in Art or Art History, Architecture or Architecture History, or Arts Education
  • have sound knowledge of the handling and care required for artifacts and art objects, as well standard art gallery methods, techniques, and systems applicable to the work.
  • have experience using PC and Mac operating systems
  • be proficient using MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create, edit, and save documents, and Outlook to create, share, and manage e-mail and attachments
  • have excellent oral communication skills, including an ability to address individuals and groups
  • have excellent written communication skills, including an understanding of differences in writing for child, youth, and adult audiences
  • preferably have experience in graphic design and video production
  • be available to work two days a week, ideally Tuesday and Saturday

The successful candidates will be required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.

Casual, Non-Union

Hours Of Work

Hours of work and shifts may vary depending upon operational requirements. The successful candidate must have flexibility and be available evenings and weekends.

Rate Of Pay

$22 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
