A regional art gallery is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to support exhibition development and administration. The candidate will help implement programs, conduct research, and assist with curatorial duties. A background in art or museum work along with excellent organizational and communication skills are essential for this role. Salary ranges from $47,502 to $52,201 annually, depending on experience. The position is permanent full-time and requires on-site work.

The MacKenzie Art Gallery is located in Treaty 4 / oskana kâ-asastêki / Regina, the traditional and contemporary territory of the nēhiyawak, Saulteaux, Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people, and the homeland of the Métis Nation (part of Western Region 3, Métis Nation—Saskatchewan).
The gallery is situated in Wascana Park—one of Canada’s largest urban parks—which derives its name from the nêhiyawêwin name for this place oskana kâ-asastêki (where the bones are piled). Although the MacKenzie is Saskatchewan’s oldest public art gallery, it is relatively young compared to the culture that has been practiced and shared on this territory for millennia. We acknowledge and honour the deep art history of this land while serving its past, current, and future generations.

Nature of Work
Working with the Curatorial team and reporting to the Director of Programs, the Curatorial Assistant provides the following administrative support:
• Assisting in the development, production, and implementation of exhibitions, publications and curatorial programs.
• Providing administrative support for publication design and distribution
• Providing curatorial support for the Acquisitions process, including coordination of Permanent Collection Advisory Committee meetings
• Assisting in research and interpretation of the Permanent Collection and exhibitions as assigned
• Coordination of department contracts
Accountabilities
• Conduct research for exhibitions, publications and curatorial programs as assigned.
• Assist with development of Gallery programs.
• Assist in preparation of program texts, proposals, reports, and correspondence.
• Assist in the preparation of grant proposals to funding agencies and/or sponsors.
• Assist with artwork label and exhibition print material production (for exhibitions or otherwise).
• Prepare and assist with exhibition interpretive materials (labels/didactics)
• Assist with the coordination of all publication files.
• Assist with distribution and inventory maintenance for publications.
• Coordinate curatorial information for interdepartmental needs.
• Assist in preparation of contracts with artists, lenders, guest curators, editors and writers. prepares and coordinates contracts for guest curators, artists, writers, designers and collaborators.
• Contribute to the ongoing practice of improving agreement templates with equity in mind.
• Arrange travel and accommodations for artists, guest curators, and program participants.
• Assist in production of publications and other interpretive materials.
• Obtains permissions and copyright clearance for exhibitions and publications
• Assists with the maintenance of accurate image inventory lists, exhibition checklists, and reciprocal mailing lists.
• Coordinates and files incoming curatorial proposals and program submissions, and various departmental correspondence.
• Prepares agendas, minutes, materials and organizes meetings (including room set up) for committees including Curatorial, Permanent Collections Advisory Committee, Program Development, and exhibition production meetings.
• Working collaboratively with the Director of Programs, Head Curator, Curator and other staff and partners, assist the planning and implementation of Gallery exhibitions and activities.
• Working collaboratively with other staff and stakeholders, provide assistance to crossdepartmental programs and initiatives.
• Research potential acquisitions (donations and purchases) as assigned.
• Present Curatorial tours and talks provided for specific exhibitions and events where appropriate.
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned.
Note: The responsibilities of this position require the candidate to work on-site, however there is flexibility to negotiate a brief remote work transition period if the candidate plans to relocate to Regina, SK.
Qualifications
Education:
Undergraduate Degree or equivalent (combination of education and experience may be considered) Qualifications
Experience:
One to two years’ experience in a similar position (non-profit, administrative, museum/art, curatorial)

• Excellent written communications skills;

• Knowledge of gallery and museum procedures;
• Comfortable discussing issues affecting the arts today;
• Knowledge of art, including expertise in the area of research;
• Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically;
• Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively in writing, including the ability to prepare and present written reports of a specialized nature;
• Fluent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and Asana (project management software).
Salary
$47,502 ($24.36 / hour) to $52,201 ($26.77 / hour)
