Job summary

The Province of Nova Scotia Regional Centres for Education is seeking a dedicated janitorial technician to perform a wide range of cleaning and light maintenance tasks under the Custodial Supervisor. Compensation follows CUPE Local 3876, currently at $24.68 per hour, with a closing date of November 5, 2026.

Responsibilities include inspecting electrical and mechanical equipment, maintaining safety gear, indoor/outdoor cleaning, and coordinating custodial supplies and event setups.

Qualifications

• Physically able to perform janitorial and maintenance duties.
• Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and building systems.
• Ability to recognize safety hazards and follow procedures.
• Must provide a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry.

Responsibilities

• Inspect playground equipment and athletic facilities.
• Perform janitorial duties indoors and outdoors.
• Order and monitor custodial supplies.
• Arrange for facilities for school events.
• Identify and report major maintenance needs.

Terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement Local 3876.

Under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, the successful candidate for this position will be required to perform a wide variety of janitorial and minor maintenance tasks.

Qualifications and Abilities:

• The successful candidate must be physically able to perform duties.
• Possess the knowledge and ability to apply modern cleaning methods and practices
• Have a thorough knowledge of building systems
• Be able to recognize safety hazards throughout the premises, and possess the knowledge and skills to perform the duties above.

Responsibilities:

• Inspection of electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Inspection of playground equipment and sports facilities.
• Maintain safety equipment and follow safety procedures.
• Perform janitorial duties as required (indoors and outdoors).
• Order and monitor proper use of custodial supplies.
• Perform minor repairs as required including but not limited to screens, desks, lockers, mechanical and electrical.
• Arrange physical/facility requirements for school events, rentals, etc.
• To identify and report major maintenance requirements.

Qualified applicants from within the CUPE Bargaining Unit Local 3876 will be considered first.
