Job summary

The University of Ottawa is seeking a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor for the Fall 2026 term to support ESL 150 sessions on the Main Campus. The role involves preparing discussion prompts and facilitating informal conversation sessions to help students practise spoken English.

Responsibilities include attendance, reporting session information to the Academic Services Coordinator, and consulting with the supervisor to foster an inclusive, student-centered learning environment.

Qualifications

• Strong spoken English and interpersonal communication skills required.
• Experience facilitating conversation groups or language-practice activities is an asset.
• Intercultural awareness and experience with second-language learners are assets.

Requirements and Nature of Work: Prepare discussion prompts and facilitate informal, interactive conversation sessions that provide students with opportunities to practise spoken English. Encourage active participation, support respectful and inclusive group interaction, and help sustain conversation through questions, prompts, and student‑centred activities. The workshops are conversation‑practice activities. They do not involve the delivery of a course curriculum, formal language instruction, assessment, grading, or evaluation of students.

Schedule: Mondays 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM (excluding Thanksgiving Day)
