Job summary

Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board seeks a temporary Sign Language Interpreter to support Elementary and Secondary schools. The role involves covering daily absences and working across Windsor and Essex County, providing interpreting services and collaborating with educators and families.

The interpreter will contribute to IEP goals, liaise with teachers and administrators, and participate in multidisciplinary teams to support student progress and communication access.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter as recognized by education authorities.
  • Knowledge and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter are required.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • Ability to facilitate communication between a deaf student and hearing teachers and peers in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Experience working with persons with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oral and sign language interpreting services to identified students.

Temporary Sign Language Interpreter

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is looking to hire a temporary Sign LanguageInterpreter for Elementary & Secondary Schools. Candidates will be required to work as neededto cover daily absences. You will also be required to work throughout Windsor and Essex County.

Duties
  • Provide oral and sign language interpreting services to identified students
  • Provide feedback to school administrators and the multidisciplinary team regarding student progress
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the student's IEP goals in consultation with teachers, administrators, special education staff and parents/guardians
  • Other duties as related to the students on caseload as determined by the Principal
Qualifications:
  1. Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter as recognized by the Ministry of Education and training is essential.
  2. Knowledge and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter are required.
  3. Proficiency and a demonstrated competency in American Sign Language is required.
  4. Ability to facilitate communication between a deaf student and hearing teachers and peers in a classroom setting.
  5. Ability to work as a team member.
  6. Experience working with persons with special needs.
