CUPE 1571 Permanent Maintenance Worker - Electrician

Position: Permanent Maintenance Worker - Electrician

Salary: $41.72 (starting hourly rate), $41.94 (hourly rate after probation)

Position Summary

Under the regular direction of the Maintenance Coordinator, the electrician is responsible for the maintenance and installation of electrical and related systems and building components at various Board sites.

Major Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems including service and distribution, power, lighting, and other electrical systems within School Board buildings.
  • Maintain all electrical equipment, including electrical components of HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain fire alarm systems, including conventional and addressable systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and keep maintenance records.
  • Install, replace, and repair lighting fixtures, switches, bulbs, ballasts, motors, starters, electric heaters, and HVAC equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Current provincial Certificate of Qualifications as an Electrician.
  • Canadian Fire Alarm Association certification.
  • Minimum five years’ experience with installations, maintenance, and repairs on commercial/industrial electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Class “G” Ontario Drivers License in good standing (driving abstract required).
  • Thorough knowledge of standards, practices, regulations, tools, and equipment of the trade.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physically capable of performing all duties of the trade.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant training (W.H.M.I.S, ARC flash, electrical safety, etc.).
  • Good computer skills and experience with building automation and control systems.
