Position Description:

The Cultural Services Facilitator is responsible for coordinating events and programs that engage artists, the arts and culture sector, and the broader community. They coordinate and support the implementation and evaluation of culture and tourism activities of the Cultural Services Division.

The position provides support to the Manager, Cultural Services, on the City’s Cultural Tourism and Public Art portfolios, which includes both internal and external events. This position also facilitates work with the City’s various arts programs and strategic initiatives which help contribute to the overall cultural vitality of Peterborough.

Qualifications and Other Pertinent Details:

The position requires a degree in Cultural Studies, Arts Education, Events Planning and Management, Community Economic Development, Public Administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in arts and/or community development, program delivery, public art, or a similar municipal role. The ideal candidate should possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with strong facilitation and public relations abilities to build effective relationships within the organization and the community. Demonstrated excellence in project management is essential, as is the ability to problem-solve creatively, manage change, foster cooperation, and build confidence among colleagues, City Council, and the public. A focus on innovative service delivery, continuous improvement, and respect for diverse perspectives is crucial, as is the ability to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities.

The candidate should have sound decision-making skills, balance problem-solving with risk management, and be knowledgeable about public sector initiatives, policies, and programs related to cultural development and creative industries. Respect for cultural diversity and commitment to inclusion are key. Leadership qualities, such as displaying a positive and approachable manner, fostering communication, facilitating change, and seeking consensus in decision-making, are also required.
