Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) is an Anishinabek Agency dedicated to serving Anishinabek people by honoring the Anishinabe way of life. Our services are rooted in the cultural context of the Anishinabe people, with supplementary approaches to support this core. We prioritize child welfare services that are culturally responsive and grounded in Anishinabe beliefs and practices.
Overview
Under the supervision of the Service Supervisor, the Cultural Enaadaamaaget collaborates with the Cultural Coordinator to implement the annual work plan and cultural calendar. The role involves working with children, families, staff, and community partners to preserve and promote traditional practices, strengthen cultural identity, and ensure children remain connected to their culture, language, and community.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Program Delivery:
- Collaborate with agency staff, families, and First Nations to deliver services.
- Foster an anti-oppressive environment and model respect and professionalism.
- Complete self-assessments and develop wellness and cultural competency plans.
- Work with youth and caregivers on cultural supports and youth outreach programs.
- Coordinate and deliver cultural events, ceremonies, and land-based programming.
- Monitor and evaluate cultural programs for relevance and effectiveness.
- Consult with elders, community leaders, and partners to ensure cultural integrity.
- Support recruitment and engagement of elders and traditional practitioners.
- Build and maintain relationships with First Nation communities and service providers.
- Recommend improvements for service quality and cultural appropriateness.
- Administration:
- Prepare reports and statistical data on cultural activities.
- Promote cultural events and resources through internal communications.
- Maintain inventories of cultural materials and supplies.
- Handle administrative tasks such as payments, documentation, and data management.
- Coordinate cultural services and activities, including workshops and ceremonies.
- Ensure safety and supervision at agency functions.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and supervision.
- Adhere to agency policies and promote its mission and values.
Qualifications
- Minimum two-year college diploma in a related discipline, preferably in Anishinaabe Studies.
- At least three years of experience working with Anishinabek children and families or similar social services.
- Experience and knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, history, and traditions.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with computers and relevant software.
- Willingness to learn the Anishinaabemowin language.
- Preference for applicants with active community involvement and traditional lifestyle.

Cultural Components & Work Environment
The role requires respect and understanding of Anishinaabe culture, including participation in traditional practices and ceremonies. The work environment may involve exposure to sacred medicines and traditional smoke, and the position can be emotionally and mentally demanding. Flexibility in working hours and outdoor activities is expected.
Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physical activities and operate equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 12 kg (25 lbs).
- Work may involve outdoor activities and extended periods of sitting or standing.
