The Misiway Milopemahtesewin Community Health Centre, located in Timmins, Ontario, is established to provide quality programs and services that honour, respect, and support Indigenous culture, values, and healing practices, complemented by western approaches to primary health care.

The Opportunity:

Job Title: Cultural Activity Coordinator Salary Range: $48,000 - $63,800

Bring your proven experience in coordination of Cultural Land-Based Programming to a challenging and rewarding role at our Indigenous Community Health Centre. Our Cultural Activity Coordinator will plan, organize, lead, and support Misiway’s family-focused cultural land-based programming, comprised of individuals of all ages. This will include recruitment of Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers, planning and organizing seasonal activities and group sessions that bring families together to heal, facilitating and/or leading the implementation of select land-based activities, ensuring supplies are readily available, and actively participating in evaluation methods to measure the effectiveness of programming.

As a successful candidate, your qualifications will include:

  • Post-secondary education in counselling, social work, health, or mental health helping disciplines, or a suitable combination of training and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience within a health or social service setting/programs and initiatives related to land-based programming
  • Competence in the delivery of cultural land-based activities encompassing significant physical activity
  • Knowledge of the rich history, stories, legends, sacred spaces, ceremonies, and cultural norms of the region surrounding the City of Timmins
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of basic budgeting and financial management
  • Strong computer skills are required
  • Class G Driver’s Licence and use of a vehicle are required
  • Ability to speak Cree or Ojibway is considered an asset
