Job Summary

The R&D Data Modeler will serve as a key enabler of data-driven decision-making by designing, implementing, and governing scalable data models that support R&D analytics and digital initiatives. This individual will work closely with business stakeholders, digital teams, and IT to translate complex R&D data requirements into standardized, reusable, and high-performance data models that power downstream analytics, AI, and digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support various R&D domains.
  • Develop common ontologies and harmonized data models across Research, Clinical, Regulatory, and other R&D areas.
  • Collaborate with product teams to translate core models into actionable datasets for analytics and AI.
  • Optimize physical schemas for performance, scalability, and reduced latency.
  • Act as SME for data integration; map source-to-target flows across legacy and modern systems.
  • Define and uphold modeling standards, naming conventions, and data harmonization practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, DSDI, GTS) to implement comprehensive data solutions with lineage and metadata management.
  • Embed data governance and FAIR data principles into the modeling lifecycle.
  • Maintain processes for version control, documentation, and change management in alignment with SDLC.
  • Evaluate new tools and recommend strategies for tool adoption and migration.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops to uncover requirements and align on future-state architectures.
  • Provide guidance and training on modeling methodologies and metadata management.
  • Support platform implementations (data warehouse, lake, virtualization hubs) as a lead data consultant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or health-related field.
  • 6–8 years of experience in data modeling or information architecture, preferably in Pharma R&D.
  • Hands-on experience designing end-to-end data models from conceptual to physical.
  • Strong knowledge of R&D data domains and GxP/compliance requirements.
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Informatica, Reltio, Databricks, ERwin, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Oracle).
  • Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes and source-to-target mappings.
  • Familiarity with SDLC, validation, and quality processes.
