Job Description – CT Technologist 2 – TGH Imaging Parsons (2600020J)

Summary

This position is accountable for performing advanced computerized tomography procedures that produce high‑quality diagnostic digital exams. It requires the ability to work at a level that does not demand constant supervision while demonstrating advanced CT skills and following established protocols for a variety of patient age groups. The role includes float technologist duties and performing a variety of advanced technical CT procedures—including biopsies and advanced level 3‑D reconstructions—that require judgment and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. The technologist assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure to be performed and records all reasons for the exam, including signs and symptoms.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation; administers oral or IV contrast when necessary or ordered.
  • Positions the patient on the examination table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the specified body area requested by the physician.
  • Moves CT equipment into the specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • Processes CT digital images and examines them for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability; produces 3‑D reconstruction images when ordered.
  • Verifies that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS and makes changes to billing codes or exam titles as needed.
  • Ensures prior studies are presented alongside current studies to the radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
  • Practices and is familiar with the ALARA program and radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
  • Stocks/orders supplies, prints CDs when requested, checks the machine for any problems, performs equipment QC as needed, and accomplishes any other duties assigned on a daily basis.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a 2‑year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.
  • Current and valid Florida State License (CRT).
  • Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry and CT (CT) registry.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (CPR).
  • Knowledge and skill in performing CT procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform CT testing, including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of CT equipment and common safety hazards in radiology.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts, clinic policies, safety, privacy, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Skill in positioning patients properly.
  • Skill in using computer network systems competently to process patient and department information.
  • Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients.
  • Skill in completing job functions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other staff.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co‑workers, and management.
