Basic Function

The position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the CRONOS (Cryogenic Research fOr NOvel Sensors) facility, TRIUMF’s new cryogenic facility targeted towards astroparticle physics research (BeEST & SuperCDMS) and detector R&D.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and upkeep the CRONOS facility.
  • Implement facility upgrades, from calibration technique upgrades to novel detectors.
  • Oversee and coordinate scientific throughput of the CRONOS facility and drive individual R&D efforts as opportunities arise.
  • Assist with administrative workload; ensure appropriate documents are produced and stored.
Supervision Exercised

The incumbent will directly supervise undergraduate students and provide guidance, training, and mentorship for more junior employees.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Expert level knowledge of cryogenic systems and their operational requirements, radiation detectors and their operational requirements, vacuum systems, and leak-checking techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Ph.D in Physics or M.S. in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience post-graduation.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems (dilution fridges, custom designed cryostats).
  • Experience in designing cryogenics systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in computer systems and office software.
