Job summary

Netflix Animation Studios Canada ULC seeks a Crowds Supervisor to lead the crowds team on a feature film, overseeing character crowds simulations, background performances, and large-scale crowd moments. You’ll ensure crowds support the story’s scale and visual style, and integrate robustly with downstream departments.

The role requires significant leadership and crowds experience, with Houdini proficiency and familiarity with Maya/Golaem/Massive.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in crowds or character effects work for feature animation, VFX, or high-end series, including time in a Lead or Supervisory role.
• Proficiency with crowds and simulation tools such as Houdini (and/or proprietary crowds systems), with familiarity in other DCCs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of crowds artists and TDs, assigning work and providing feedback in dailies and reviews.
• Collaborate with VFX Supervisor and show leadership to define standards for crowds across the show.
• Supervise crowds work on shots, ensuring crowds support story, performance, and cinematic composition.
• Create or refine crowds setups and cycles for complex, hero, or reference work to establish quality and technical approach.
• Work with Animation and other departments to ensure seamless crowd integration into shots.
