Job summary

Stellar Creative Lab in Canada is seeking a skilled Crowd Artist for a Marvel Studios streaming series. You will populate massive sets using technical simulation and artistic flair, collaborating with FX, Lookdev, Lighting, and Animation to deliver believable crowds.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience on feature films, episodic TV, or animated features with crowd work.
• Hands-on experience building digital assets and running complex simulations in Atoms.
• Balanced technical simulation skills with an artistic eye for crowd movement and behavior.

Responsibilities

• Populate crowds using simulation techniques to bring environments to life.
• Set up crowd assets and run Atoms simulations for complex behaviors when needed.
• Troubleshoot crowd setups and optimize workflows to maintain creative momentum.
• Collaborate with FX, Lookdev, Lighting, and Animation to integrate crowds with the show’s vision.

The Opportunity

We are staffing up for a new Marvel Studios streaming series! To pull off the epic scale required for this project, we need a talented Crowd Artist who loves bringing massive sets and scenes to life.

While our Crowd TDs are busy building the pipeline and tools, we need a creative, self starter artist who gets genuinely excited about populating those worlds. If you are a team player who thrives in a small, collaborative environment and has a true passion for creating great looking crowds using technical simulation skills, we want you on our team.

Simulation and Execution

• Bring the World to Life: Use simulation techniques to populate characters and assets, turning empty environments into vibrant, living scenes.
• Asset Setup: Set up crowd assets meticulously and create Atoms simulations for more complex character behaviors when the shot requires it.
• Troubleshooting: Evaluate any issues that arise during the setup of crowds, testing out new procedures and workflows to keep the creative momentum going.

Collaboration and Delivery

• Cross Department Teamwork: Work closely with the FX department, Lookdev, Lighting, Animation department, and your CG Supervisor to ensure your crowds integrate perfectly with the creative vision of the show.
• Proactive Communication: Actively collaborate with other departments on creative solutions, workflow improvements, and handoffs.
• Time Management: Have a crystal clear understanding of your deadlines and task assignments, consistently meeting them while keeping the team updated on your progress.

The Requirements

Must Haves

• Experience: 2 plus years of experience on feature films, episodic television, or animated features with a strong focus on crowd work.
• Software: Hands on experience building digital assets and running complex simulations in Atoms.
• Core Skills: You are a problem solver who knows how to balance technical simulation skills with a fantastic artistic eye for how crowds should move and behave.
• Eligibility: You must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice to Haves

• A strong understanding of Linux based operating systems.
• Deep experience with background crowd simulation methods and workflows.
• Working knowledge of Flow Production Tracking (formerly ShotGrid).
• Crowd knowledge in other softwares such as Houdini, Golaem
