Crossing Guard Rover
Job S tatus: Continuous Part-Time
Pay & Grade : $ 21.63 to $ 22.50 Hourly Band : 3
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday, approximately 7:00am to 9:00am and 2: 0 0 pm to 4:00pm (daily shift times will vary) during school days
Initial location : Various Locations

Overview
As a Crossing Guard Rover, you will assist in the safe movement of all pedestrians including school children crossing roadways at designated points by observing gaps in traffic, assuming right-of-way and indicating when it is safe to cross. You are available and able to cover any designated crossing location within the city as assigned by the supervisor, at short notice.
Responsibilities
- Assists all pedestrians, including children as they commute to and from school, in safely crossing roadways and intersections by stopping vehicular traffic on roadways at designated points.
- Watches for gaps in traffic and walks children across the roadway or intersection while holding a "stop" sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.
- Advises children of unsafe behavior.
- Reports issues or incidents to supervisor.
- Must be available for Supervisor to assign shifts, each school day, during the following times:
- 7:00am to 7:30am.
- 2:00pm to 2:30pm.
- Must be available to cover any shift and any location in the city every school day in the morning and afternoon.
- Flexibility to work at all crossing types.
- Ability to travel to any location within the city.
- Must be prepared upon arriving at each assigned crossing location (e.g. proper PPE, location diagram, etc.).
- Trains new Crossing Guards at their assigned locations, and re-training of existing Crossing Guards as required.
- When unassigned a shift, assists with the distribution of equipment, deliveries of notifications, site inspections, and performs various duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Equivalent to partial secondary school education.
- Up to 1 month of related experience such as customer service or experience working/volunteering with others.
- Must live within a reasonable distance to the City of Kitchener and have access to a personal vehicle to travel and respond to various crossing locations across the city within 30 minutes from time of call out.
- A strong understanding of pedestrian road safety skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work in a variety of weather conditions in all seasons.
- Able to work with youth.
- Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment.
- Willing to undergo a medical check to ensure that the potential candidate is fit for duty as a condition of employment.
- Access to reliable transportation and be able to travel to various locations across the ci ty.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
