Job summary

Central Ontario FS, a division of GROWMARK, Inc, offers a Summer Crop Scout internship in Central Ontario, Alliston, ON. You will gain boots-on-the-ground experience in agronomy by scouting crops and documenting weeds, pests, diseases, and yield threats using IPM techniques, satellite imagery and GPS.

Represent the company in growers' fields, learn through hands-on activities, and build practical knowledge for a career in agriculture during the summer program.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an agriculture-related college or university program.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid driver's license (Full G) and ability to travel independently.
• Willing to work extended hours during peak seasons.
• Able to walk crop fields and perform visual crop inspections.

Responsibilities

• Scout crops and document notes on weeds, insects, diseases, and yield threats.
• Represent Central Ontario FS in growers' fields and on the road.
• Use IPM, satellite imagery and GPS to support field observations.

Use integrated pest management (IPM) techniques, satellite imagery and GPS technology to document notes from the field that include weeds, insects, diseases and other yield limiting threats.
Represent Central Ontario FS on the road and in our growers' fields. Be curious, ask questions, and get the most out of your summer! We provide you the necessary tools to have a great summer, while growing your knowledge and experience of the agriculture industry.
REQUIREMENTS

• Normally requires an individual currently enrolled in an agriculture-related college or university program, who possesses a basic understanding of production agriculture.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license (Full G), a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to travel independently as needed.
• Occasionally exposed or required to work in extreme conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
• Must be able to walk crop fields and conduct visual inspections of crops.
• Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK's policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
• May be required to work extended hours, particularly during peak seasons.
