Summary:

Elizabeth Fry Toronto’s Just in Time is a program that integrates an evidence-based intervention such as Critical Time Intervention (CTI) and trauma-informed financial literacy training to support female-identifying individuals who are experiencing gender-based violence (GBV), and who are in conflict with the law.

The CTI Counsellor is responsible for the development, administration and evaluation of financial literacy training.The incumbent will adhere to the agency’s values and service standards as well as program delivery and evaluation frameworks. Using a trauma-informed and harm reduction model of program delivery, the CTI Counsellor will ensure that participants accessing the program are provided a warm, safe environment that fosters self-determination, healing, and growth. The incumbent will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, initiative, collaboration, and solutions-oriented approach in the delivery of the program.

This dynamic position reports directly to the Manager of Community Outreach & Employment Support. Please note that this job is in-person with a limited amount of remote work. Working within the mandated protocols, the CTI Counsellor will be required to fulfill the following core duties:

Individual & Group Counselling:

  • Use a trauma informed approach to working with women who are experiencing gender-based violence (GBV).
  • Deliver client-focused support services including referrals to financial literacy workshops, social services, health information and referrals.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices in service delivery such as intensive case management, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction and Critical Time Intervention.

Client Support & Case Management:

  • For this position, the target for the first year will be the recruitment of 25 new clients, these targets are subject to periodic review and may be adjusted based on program needs.
  • Conduct 25-30 new intakes and needs assessments per year to determine clients’ eligibility for Critical Time Intervention program.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client; logging events and progress; maintain program charts and other reporting data as required by the agency.
  • Develop a time-limited plan with participants to address systemic barriers to basic needs, ensures plan is accomplished, and transitions participants into ongoing services and programs as they transition out of program.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of clients accessing the program.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients for support and services with internal and external resources and engages in active problem solving around each client’s difficulties.
  • Update and revise client files at each point of contact in a timely manner to ensure the availability of up-to-date information. • Independently develop and facilitate 4 Informational sessions annually.
  • Facilitate at least 1 support groups per year for eligible clients who enrolled in the program.

Program Administration & Reporting:

  • The CTI Counsellor will adhere to the agency’s values and service standards as well as program delivery and evaluation frameworks.
  • The incumbent will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, initiative, collaboration, and solutions-oriented approach in the delivery of services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client; logging events and progress; maintain program charts and other reporting data as required by the agency.

Program Coordination & Community Engagement:

  • Liaise closely with program staff and other service providers in the coordination and provision of services to the client; participate in community meetings pertaining to services benefiting clients and serve as agency representative at community events.
  • Participate on internal and external committees, sharing information, identifying goals and resolving problems.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and assist in the orientation and training of new staff, students, peers and volunteers.
  • Attend all agency wide and team meetings to stay current with agency plans, learn about different programs, meet, and share information with colleagues.

Others:

  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of client and agency related information.
  • Comply with agency Health & Safety plan.
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures.
  • Apply gender-responsive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approaches to work.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in social work, community/social services or combination in education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of direct service experience and advanced knowledge of issues relating to women who are experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) complexity of poverty and women’s homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma, substance use, health issues, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of harm reduction approaches in supporting women who use substances.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources and services available for target population.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, specifically women who are, have been or is at risk of becoming in conflict with the law, or a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health and how it may impact women who become involved with the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, community agencies and the public.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, clients and service providers.
  • Approachable, tolerant, non-judgmental, empathic and calm in conflicts or crisis.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities with effective record keeping.
  • Ability to problem-solve and navigate complex systems; must possess effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent active listening and crisis intervention skills with ability to exercise and model good judgment.• Ability to effectively perform job duties with minimum supervision.
  • Commitment to a trauma-informed, feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression and harm reduction-based practice.
