Position Overview:
- Provides for safety aspects of patient care (assists with patient restraints, uses correct transfer techniques, follows falls precautions, responds appropriately to emergency situations).
- Provides personal care (bathing, mouth care, evening care, incontinence care) to patients under the direction of the RN.
- Applies basic dressings, slings, splints, antiembolism and sequential pressure stockings under the direction of the RN.
- Collects specimens such as stool, urine, and sputum on a timely basis.
- Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags; records accurate intake and output per standards.
- Provides nutrition to patients, including feeding, monitoring tube feedings, and delivering nourishment, with accurate calorie counting.
- Makes pertinent observations about patients, documents in records, and reports findings to RN.
- Assists with post-mortem care and CPR under supervision.
- Performs Phlebotomy, stocks trays, performs glucometer testing, EKGs, vital signs, and pulse oximetry as per competency.
- Stocks supplies, maintains a clean environment, and performs other duties as needed.
- Checks and signs unit code carts; reports malfunctions of equipment like defibrillators.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: One year of experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA, completion of a medical assistant program, or two clinical semesters of nursing school.
- Credentials: AHA BLS certification; non-licensed candidates must obtain before end of orientation.
- Skills: Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.
- Training: CNA certification preferred; or completion of UAP training within 90 days if not certified.
- Work Hours: 8 hours per day.
Physical Demands and Environment:
- Frequent physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, carrying, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crawling.
- Occasional activities include climbing, wrist deviation, pinching, fine motor activities, keyboard use.
- Continuous demands include talking and hearing.
- Lifting requirements: 80 lbs from floor to waist, 85 lbs at waist level and above.
- Sensory requirements include good vision, color discrimination, depth perception, and hearing.
- Exposure risks include bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne diseases, uneven surfaces, noise, and dust.
Additional Notes: Offers contingent on onboarding and physical. Annual flu vaccination required unless exempted for medical or religious reasons.
