About the Opportunity

The Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) is responsible for a wide range of duties within the Emergency Department and throughout the hospital. The extended scope of practice enables the CCP to treat patients both independently and as a member of an ever-changing multidisciplinary team. The CCP provides specialized support in advanced life support, difficult airway management and procedural sedation and analgesia. The CCP allows the physician to maximize efficiency and provides advanced trauma life support, code blue team support, trauma, preceptor for students, casting and splinting, wound care and closure (suturing), phlebotomy, arterial access for blood gases, central line insertion, chest tube insertion, transports critically ill patients to other treatment/testing areas, and the assessment, investigation and management of injuries.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Critical Care Paramedic program
  • Licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Paramedics
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience at the CCP level
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-stress, multi-disciplinary environment an asset
  • Previous work experience in a hospital setting or in emergency care preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
  • Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Splinting/Casting, Wound Care/Closure Course, Preceptor Workshop, Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS), Crisis Resource Management, Advanced Interventions and Management in Emergencies, and Procedural Sedation and Analgesia Course and Simulation are required or willing to obtain
  • Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, patient assessment and telecommunications skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and supervise patient care
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent Part Time 50%; 37.5 hours bi-weekly
  • Shifts include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

$49.01 hourly
