Job summary

Vancouver Police Department in Vancouver seeks a Crisis Interventon Caseworker to provide social work, crisis intervention and ongoing case management within Victim Services. This temporary full-time role supports victims of traumatic incidents, coordinates with officers, Crown Counsel and community resources, and includes court orientation and escort duties.

The ideal candidate has extensive crisis intervention experience, knowledge of psycho-social assessment, and a degree in social sciences

Qualifications

  • Extensive crisis intervention and emotional support experience.
  • Knowledge of psychological first aid and crisis support.
  • Understanding of policies, regulations, criminal code and referrals.
  • Ability to work under stress with diverse clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support in response to traumatic incidents at the request of a police officer.
  • Assess psychological, social and cultural needs; refer or escalate as needed; coordinate with specialized units.
  • Provide court support services; liaise with Crown Counsel; inform clients of procedures; accompany to court as needed.
  • Act as intermediary with external agencies; facilitate access to resources and transportation as required.
  • Participate in peer debriefings; maintain records and reports related to the work.
  • Liaise with VSU Primary Dog Handler and assess use of Justice Facility Dog for clients; exposure to dog on scene.
  • Engage in annual high-stress debrief programs; perform other duties as assigned.
