Pay: $30.11 - $31.57 per hour

CUPE LOCAL 966 - Public Works

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: 2941 King St., Caledon, ON

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (4-day flexible work schedule currently in effect)

Shiftwork will be required during winter months. Stand-by rotation and overtime opportunities.

Who we are:

We dedicate ourselves to keeping your commute safe and comfortable through a comprehensive year-round maintenance program. Our dedicated crews tackle a variety of tasks to ensure smooth and reliable roadways. During the summer our crews install guideposts and guiderails, perform landscaping duties such as mowing grass, tree and brush removal, and maintain drainage systems by cleaning ditches and culverts. In the winter our focus shifts to snow and ice management, which involves erecting and removing snow fences, stockpiling salt and sand, and conducting night patrols for snow plowing. These comprehensive maintenance efforts ensure that the roads remain safe and passable throughout the year.

The role:

Under general supervision, you'll play a vital role in maintaining Peel Region's road network by performing both manual and equipment operating duties.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform road patching, repairs, sweeping and spring cleanup.
  • Install guideposts and guiderails.
  • Landscape duties including mowing grass, tree and brush removal, clean ditches and weed and litter control.
  • Clean and paint bridges, install and clean culverts and storm sewers.
  • Winter duties include erecting and removing snow fences, stockpile salt and sand, night telephone answering, night patrol and wing person duties on snow plowing equipment.
  • Maintenance and construction activities on regional storm sewer systems.
  • Accountable for tools, equipment and vehicles assigned and clean up operations on site.
  • Investigate complaints, faults or problems, determine causes and provide remedies when possible.
  • Accurately complete forms and reports.
  • Apply Ministry and Regional safety precautions and procedures while performing duties and reports Health & Safety hazards.
  • Operate a variety of manual and powered equipment.
  • Maintain a neat appearance and performs duties in a way that conveys a "positive image" of the Region of Peel.

What we require:

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months job related experience.
  • Valid class DZ license in good standing.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Capable of performing all related work and duties involved in the maintenance and construction of road systems.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Accurately complete work forms and reports.
  • Knowledgeable with MS Office, Outlook, use of Tablets and other systems.
  • Ability assessment will be conducted by Fleet Safety.
