This dual-class position involves serving as a Crew Leader during the Summer season (April to October), leading, participating, and facilitating work of OSO field crews for Turf Maintenance. During the Winter season (November to March), you will be a Labourer II, performing semi-skilled manual labour related to snow removal and outdoor ice surface maintenance.

As a Crew Leader, you will:

  • Set daily priorities and implement work plans according to standards and schedules.
  • Assign tasks to staff based on responsibilities, ensuring safety and timeliness.
  • Oversee work, set performance expectations, follow up on progress, and report issues.
  • Monitor staff attendance and performance, addressing issues as needed.
  • Lead equipment operation and safety handling of turf mowing machinery.
  • Assign crews for seasonal turf operations requirements.
  • Resolve equipment issues, ensure safety hazards are checked, and plan for new equipment.
  • Maintain equipment schedules, and ensure operators are trained.
  • Ensure safety and training compliance for all staff operating equipment.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, and orientation of new staff.
  • Inspect work quality and standards.
  • Provide professional advice and assistance to supervisors and management.
  • Inspect work areas, assign crews, and handle emergent situations.
  • Assist in seasonal planning, staffing, and work plan development.
  • Organize project staffing, equipment, and supplies, and plan for maintenance issues.
  • Utilize software like SAP, LMS, SDM, Google Suite, and turf web map.
  • Participate in disciplinary investigations and oversee inventory and maintenance programs.
  • Monitor productivity data, create job hazard assessments, and implement SOPs.
  • Promote the City’s cultural commitments and recognize staff excellence.
  • Update tracking sheets for staff, inventory, and equipment.
  • Accurately input task data for staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

As a Labourer II, you will:

  • Operate minor maintenance equipment like tractors, snow blowers, and power tools.
  • Perform manual tasks related to snow and ice control, and outdoor ice surface maintenance.
  • Operate City vehicles and tools, adhering to safety procedures.
  • Participate in safety programs and hazard assessments.
  • Ensure worksite safety and responsible work practices.
  • Prioritize daily and weekly work assignments.
  • Prepare materials and tools for work.
  • Provide customer service and communicate effectively.
  • Complete and submit paperwork accurately.
  • Mentor less experienced labourers.
  • Perform snow and ice removal, and outdoor ice surface maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma in a related field.
  • 3 years of responsible experience in parks, turf, or municipal maintenance.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Fit for respirator use; compliance with safety standards required.
  • Ability to work day, night, and weekend shifts up to 10 hours.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license; City Driver’s permit required.

Hours: 40/week. Salary: Labourer II: $31.302/hr; Crew Leader: $37.010/hr.
