Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Communication Services Manager.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Brand Management, the Communication Services Manager will lead OPG’s corporate creative brand strategy, managing a cross-functional team of designers, videographers, and production specialists as well as a roster of external creative partners. They will work with the Senior Manager and Director, Brand Management to develop new ideas for company branding, promotional campaigns, and marketing communications to help achieve business goals and objectives. They will be responsible for fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, while ensuring corporate brand compliance and consistency across all internal and external communications products.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead OPG’s corporate creative brand strategy by translating strategic direction into integrated creative strategies and developing high-quality creative products to support OPG’s growth and key projects.
  • Oversee the design and development of a wide range of strategic marketing materials including digital, web, social media, print, video, CRM, presentations, experiential, signage, internal communications, and direct mail.
  • Collaborate with internal clients and other OPG subsidiary companies to develop creative strategies to meet unique business needs and provide creative feedback on marketing and campaign strategies being executed by advertising agency partners.
  • Supervise and direct a cross-functional team of graphic designers, videographers, and external creative partners in the strategic development of communications materials; lead brainstorming and creative sessions to generate ideas, review creative designs, approve/reject ideas, provide feedback.
  • Examine existing processes, identify opportunities, and create solutions that improve design capabilities of department.
  • Work with Production Specialist to assign roles and tasks to team members based on their individual strengths and abilities, and maintain internal databases for all designs, photography, and video projects.
  • Increase the design acumen of direct reports; drive innovation, creativity and develop teams to use their talents effectively; complete ongoing performance evaluations for direct reports, creating development plans where appropriate.
  • Shape and maintain brand standards and ensure that designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations.

Qualifications

  • 4-year University degree (or the equivalent level of post-secondary education) in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Advertising, Marketing or Communications.
  • Requires 6+ years’ experience as a Creative Director, Associate Creative Director or in a similar creative role effectively managing a cross functional creative team.
  • Requires proficiency in digital mediums, particularly with, but not limited to web, social, and emerging technologies.
  • Requires hands-on experience in creative processes, marketing, graphic design, and brand development.
  • Requires a solid understanding of design, copy, and web practices.
  • Requires excellent working knowledge of software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.
