Responsibilities

  • Compose copy that resonates with our customers & inspires them. Cover a range of topics, assets, & channel types.
  • Gain a deep understanding of our brand’s core principles, tone & voice, plus copy & campaign style guides, applying that understanding to craft copy that supports business goals.
  • Handle multiple copy projects on different timelines with varying levels of ambiguity, complexity & importance, with support from copy leadership.
  • Meet copy deadlines in coordination with project management, account management & creative teams.
  • Prepare well-structured drafts that are on-brief, meet the 3 C’s (Conversational, Captivating & Confident), & demonstrate your knowledge of our customer & your ability to research topics, products, industry, company/organization & technology.
  • Collaborate with design & other team members to develop creative solutions that meet business goals.
  • Use critical thinking to translate strategic marketing initiatives into concise & compelling copy solutions.
  • Make edits based on feedback from partners including marketers, site managers, editors, legal & copy leadership.
  • Approach copy feedback with a positive, collaborative attitude & a willingness to learn & grow.
  • Consider character limitations & design constraints when creating copy & partner with editors & copy leadership to resolve issues.
  • Adhere to the evolution of the brand tone of voice & copy style guide.
  • Participate in project kick-offs & follow-up meetings, ask proactive questions, seek clarity, & explain creative choices confidently.
  • Ensure copy is error-free, participate in QA phases, & conduct audits to identify & document errors.
  • Stay updated on competitors, technology developments, & industry/media trends relevant to retail & marketing.
  • Maintain a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Seek answers to ambiguous asks, work autonomously, & adapt quickly to changing business needs.

About You

The essentials:

  • BA in Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising, or related field & at least 3 years of copywriting experience.
  • 4+ years' experience copywriting for an ecommerce brand.
  • Ability to work independently & collaborate closely.
  • Excellent proofreading skills & attention to detail.
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
  • Strong organizational skills, ownership & accountability, & self-motivation.
  • Proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, & flexible amidst shifting needs.
  • High emotional intelligence & relationship-building skills to manage expectations across various partners.
  • A sense of humor is a plus!

What We Offer

  • Monks provides a salary range of $85,000 — $89,000 CAD, which is a good faith estimate. The final offer depends on various factors, but not on protected characteristics.
