Crane Service Technician – Job Description

Important Requirement and Characteristics

Our Primary Objective is to provide high quality products and services relating to overhead cranes, and to achieve complete customer satisfaction, while maintaining maximum competitiveness and profitability.

As a Technician for Canadian Crane, you will provide services such as installations, repairs and preventative maintenance including inspections of overhead cranes, hoists, and other material handling equipment.

Some of the important requirements and characteristics of this position are (but are not limited to) :

oTroubleshoot all overhead crane components and communicate detailed findings, corrective action and solutions by documenting on supporting work orders.

oLiaison between other Technicians, Support personnel, Management and / or Customers as required

oEnsure customers are pleased with Canadian Crane’s service department personnel, performance, etc.

Specific Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) execution of the following areas, with the regular and direct input of management :

INSPECTIONS

oPeriodic inspections per OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Association), CSA B167 & (Crane Manufactures Association of America Inc.) CMAA Standards as formatted by Canadian Crane

oPhotographic images of any issues, problems or wear and tear

oDescriptive reporting / documentation of any issues, problems or wear and tear

ELECTRICAL

oTroubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect any malfunctions

oRead and interpret wiring diagrams, drawings and specifications

oTest and measure voltage, loads, ground faults integrity of circuits

oExperience with high voltage and energized equipment

oElectronic and conventional electrical devices

oTroubleshoot and isolate faults

oAbility to understand VFD’s and conventional electrical devices and trouble shoot

oMath / numeracy

MECHANICAL

o Identify worn crane components

o Effectively and efficiently replace sheaves, bearings, brakes, wheels, wire rope, rope guides, etc.

o Troubleshoot motors and motor readings / fault codes

o Conduct preventative maintenance programs

o Read and understand technical manuals and instructions

POLICY DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING

oRegularly review established policies for improvements, and communicate any ideas for improvements to management for review and action

oTrain new staff in Service Department to understand Canadian Crane policies, procedures, site visits, etc.

PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

oThorough knowledge of our product range, capabilities, personnel, resources etc.

oThorough knowledge of marketplace, customers, competitors, suppliers

o The ability to read drawings to identify crane and building components

LIABILITY

oEnsure any risk / liability or exposure to Canadian Crane is identified, communicated and appropriately managed, including :

oTechnicians communicate their findings immediately to Service Department, for review and further action, including updating management

oUnderstanding the nature of the issue, and possible solution(s)

oPresenting the information to management, with a suggested action plan(s), to eliminate the liability, or if not within the mandate of Canadian Crane and its service department, to communicate the issue to the customer and / or his representatives to ensure Canadian Crane not responsible in anyway

WARRANTY CLAIMS

oReport any warranty claims to Management, service team members

Selection Criteria

oCompletion of secondary school and training courses (electrical & mechanical) or a vocational program is required, or a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered

oA minimum of 4 years troubleshooting to detect faults and malfunctions and repairing overhead cranes and components

oExperience conducting inspections and performing preventative maintenance on both mechanical and electrical components for overhead cranes

oFluent in English, both written and spoken

oMust possess excellent customer service skills

oDriver’s License or ability to obtain one once in Canada

oThe ability to work at heights, indoors, outdoors in all weather conditions

oThe ability to report to the main office in Barrie and travel within Ontario including overnight travel with limited notice

oThe ability to work overtime, occasionally on weekends and on a rotational on-call

Terms of Employment

oPermanent Full-time Position

oSalary Range $35.00 - $39.00 / hr and annual performance-based bonuses between 2-5% may be available

oOvertime pay

oBenefits include dental care, vision care, extended health care, life insurance, and on-site parking

oFully serviced work vehicle and smart phone

oLanguage of work : English

oLocations of work are generally within the Greater Toronto Area but travel may be required within Southern and Central Ontario Regions
