Job summary

Barnhart Canada in Grande Prairie is seeking a Journeyman or 3rd Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to support our branch maintenance team on cranes, trailers, and support equipment. The role is primarily branch-based with occasional travel to Fort St.

John, BC. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and air brake systems, using logbooks and a tablet to record hours and activities.

Qualifications

• 3rd year Apprentice or Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification required
• Experience working on heavy equipment or cranes preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude across electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and air brake systems
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to work locally

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on cranes, trailers, and support equipment
• Complete oil changes, brake work, tire service, suspension repairs, and annual PMs
• Support annual crane certification requirements
• Record hours, mileage, and maintenance activities using logbooks and a tablet
• Collaborate with crane operators to identify issues and keep equipment operational
• Work independently on most tasks while being part of a small team
• Work in the shop and outdoors as needed
• Conduct shop safety audits and promote a safety-first culture
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, fuel, hydraulics, and air brake systems
