Job summary

British Columbia Public Service Careers in Victoria, BC is seeking a Crown Counsel Level 1 to lead prosecutions under the Criminal Code and provincial statutes, guiding charges from start to finish in accordance with BC Prosecution Service policies and the Crown Counsel Act.

Qualifications

• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia, or eligible to become a practicing member within 90 days of closing.
• Crown Counsel Level 1: Counsel up to 5th year of call; lawyers with more than 5 years will not be considered.
• Preference may be given to applicants currently employed as Crown Counsel by the BC Prosecution Service or other provincial/prosecutorial bodies.
• Travel is a requirement of this position.
• A Criminal Record Review Act and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.

The Role

As Crown Counsel, you will lead the prosecution of offences under the Criminal Code, provincial laws, and certain federal statutes, from start to finish. Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements

• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia, or eligible to become a practicing member of the Law Society of British Columbia within 90 days of the closing of the competition.
• Crown Counsel Level 1: Counsel up to 5th year of call. Note: Lawyers with an excess of five (5) years of call to the bar will not be considered.

Preference may be given to the following:

• Applicants currently employed as Crown Counsel by the BC Prosecution Service.
• Experience employed as Crown Counsel by the BC Prosecution Service, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada or another provincial prosecution service.
• Travel is a requirement of this position.
