The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The OSC's mandate includes protecting investors from unfair, improper, or fraudulent practices, fostering fair, efficient, and competitive capital markets, and contributing to the stability of the financial system.

The Registration, Inspections & Examinations (RIE) division is seeking a CPA to conduct risk-based reviews of market participants in the securities industry.

RIE oversees dealers, advisers, investment fund managers, derivative firms, and other market participants relied upon by the public. Using a risk-based approach, RIE manages the registration and compliance reviews of registered firms and consists of multidisciplinary teams including professional staff (accountants and lawyers), registration officers, and support staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Champion investor protection and confidence by conducting reviews of registered firms to assess compliance with Ontario securities laws.
  • Formulate corrective actions by preparing reports on non-compliance and internal control weaknesses, working with firms to determine necessary corrective measures, and assessing their appropriateness.
  • Engage with stakeholders to find practical solutions to non-compliance issues and recommend further regulatory actions when appropriate.
  • Adapt regulatory principles to industry trends and emerging issues.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Membership in good standing with CPA Ontario.
  • At least 1 year of audit and assurance experience post-CPA qualification.
  • Experience at an audit and assurance firm.
  • Experience in investment management or financial services is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, creativity, and results-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and engage with stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance regulatory objectives with practical business considerations.
