Nipissing University invites applications for part-time course instructors for Spring/Summer 2025 (25SS) positions to teach in the Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP), the Teacher of Indigenous Language as a Second Language (TILSL) program, and the Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (ICADP). These positions will be offered in hybrid and in-person formats in North Bay, Ontario.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Education or closely related field
  • A Bachelor of Education and master’s degree
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience as evidenced by a teaching philosophy, strong teaching evaluations, and/or other relevant achievements related to teaching
  • Certification as a registered teacher with the appropriate licensing authority (e.g. Ontario College of Teachers)
  • Indigenous knowledge is valued and considered an asset in this role.
  • We strongly encourage applications, which may include self-identification in a covering letter from Indigenous peoples who can contribute diverse perspectives and insights.

Duties

  • Responsible for all instruction and evaluation for the portion of the course to which they are assigned
  • Will be available to meet with students outside of the official classroom time
  • Complete mandatory training requirements, review and follow Nipissing University's policies and procedures

Courses Available

We are hiring in multiple programs and for multiple courses, including:

Teacher of Indigenous Language as a Second Language (TILSL)

  • EDUC 2446 – Indigenous Languages Team Teaching II
    • Academic Calendar: EDUC 2446
    • Dates: July 7, 2025 – August 8, 2025
    • Location: North Bay (Approx. 7 hours per week for 5 weeks)
    • Course Hours: 36 hours each
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates must be fluent in Anishnaabemwin.

Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (ICADP)

Multiple courses are available, each delivered over two-week intensive sessions in North Bay:

Session 1: July 7 – July 22, 2025

  • EDUC 1034 – Introduction to Canadian Indigenous Studies

Session 2: July 24 – August 8, 2025

  • EDUC 1043 – Child Development
