Job summary

The Michener Institute is seeking an experienced clinician educator with expertise in pediatric cardiac surgery and simulation-based education to support the development of a new pediatric simulation curriculum. The CVP program is the largest and first master’s level program in Canada, training cardiovascular perfusionists to work in health care settings across Ontario.

Qualifications

• Canadian or American certified pediatric perfusionist.
• Clinical expertise in pediatric cardiac surgery, pediatric critical care, or related area.
• Experience with simulation-based education and curriculum development.
• Knowledge of simulation pedagogy, assessment, and debriefing.
• Experience in interprofessional healthcare education environments.
• Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop six interprofessional pediatric cardiac surgery simulation cases (five core, one remediation).
• Complete all simulations and assessment tools by November 2026.
• Create debriefing guides and learner assessments.
• Upload materials to MichBrite LMS and keep it updated.
• Test simulations onsite with Califia and troubleshoot issues by December 2026.
• Collaborate with management and industry partners to secure supplies.
• Participate in weekly instructional design and project team meetings.

Position: Course Developer, Pediatric Perfusionist
Department:Cardiovascular Perfusion
Status: Contract Part-time (12 weeks with opportunity to extend for course instruction/delivery)
Site: The Michener Institute of Education at UHN
Salary:$5,400 lump sum for a 12-week contract (paid in two installments of $2,700 at 6 weeks and $2,700 upon completion)
Hours: 3 hours per week

Position Summary

The Michener Institute is seeking an experienced clinician educator with expertise in pediatric cardiac surgery and simulation-based education to support the development of a new pediatric simulation curriculum. The CVP program is the largest and first master’s level program in Canada, training cardiovascular perfusionists to work in health care settings across Ontario. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop pediatric simulations within the CVP Program. This position provides the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to develop a high quality educational experience to future perfusionists.

Responsibilities

• Develop six interprofessional pediatric cardiac surgery simulation case scenarios:
  • Five core curriculum cases
  • One remediation case
• Complete development of all simulation scenarios by November 2026
• Develop corresponding learner assessment tools and evaluation rubrics by November 2026
• Create structured debriefing guides to support facilitator‑led reflection and feedback
• Upload and organize curriculum materials within the learning management system (MichBrite) and update the Learning Management System as required
• Test all simulation scenarios onsite using the Califia simulator and troubleshoot technical or educational issues to ensure successful implementation by December 2026
• Identify required pediatric consumables and simulation resources needed to deliver the scenarios
• Collaborate with management and industry partners/vendors to secure required supplies and equipment
• Participate in weekly touchpoints with the instructional design and project team

• Canadian or American certified pediatric perfusionist
• Clinical expertise in pediatric cardiac surgery, pediatric critical care, pediatric perfusion, pediatric anesthesia, or a related specialty
• Experience developing simulation‑based educational activities and clinical scenarios
• Knowledge of simulation pedagogy, assessment, debriefing, and competency‑based education
• Experience working within interprofessional healthcare education environments
• Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills
