Job description

Sheridan is seeking passionate and knowledgeable professionals to join our course development team within the School of Applied Health's new Addictions and Mental Health program. This program is designed to prepare students for frontline and systems-level work in mental health and substance use care, with an emphasis on trauma-informed, person-centred, and equity-driven approaches.

We are currently inviting applications from experienced and motivated professionals to support the development of the following courses:

  • Fundamentals of Mental Health
  • Trauma Informed Approach
  • Counselling Skills I
  • Crisis Management Harm Reduction & Prevention

Reporting to the Associate Dean, this part-time opportunity offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to a growing field by shaping curriculum that reflects current practices, ethical standards, and emerging trends in addictions and mental health. Course developers will work both independently and collaboratively with faculty and academic leadership to design high-quality, engaging content aligned with the program's learning outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of community mental health, substance use, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practice, along with a commitment to inclusive education. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing course-specific curriculum aligned with Program and course learning outcomes;
  • Developing engaging, accessible modules, assignments, assessments, and rubrics based on the approved evaluation matrix;
  • Responding to feedback from internal stakeholders and revising content to improve quality;
  • Applying innovative, evidence-informed instructional strategies and tools to enhance learning and delivery;
  • Collaborating with the program team through regular meetings and shared milestones;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Addictions and Mental Health, Counselling, Public Health (focused on mental health and/or substance use), or a related field;
  • Extensive knowledge and professional experience in relevant areas;
  • Teaching or curriculum development experience in postsecondary or adult education is an asset;
  • Experience with universal and accessible design is an asset;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level is an asset.
