This position reports to

Country Holding Officer

Your role and responsibilities

The Country HSE Lead serves as the primary subject-matter expert on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) within the country or legal entity. This role acts as the main point of contact and delegated representative for the Country Holding Officer (CHO) on all HSE-related matters, including inquiries from regulators and authorities.

The Country HSE Lead is responsible for ensuring that each legal entity within the country complies with all applicable HSE legislation and regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role leads the HSE function locally, providing consulting and facilitation support to the CHO, and serves as a key link to ABB’s global HSE network.

  1. Builds a strong foundation for the implementation of ABB Group policies and the HSE & Security Accountability Framework through collaboration between the CHO/Country Managing Director (CMD) and local teams.
  2. Supports the CHO in the collection and preparation of fiduciary performance reports (Annual Social Report, Sustainability Performance Indicator (SPI)).
  3. Assists the country management team in effectively managing fiduciary HSE responsibilities by helping plan, execute, and follow up on Country HSE & Security Board meetings, ensuring alignment with outcomes.
  4. Helps the country management team understand their legal obligations, liabilities, and responsibilities in accordance with local HSE legislation and ABB’s internal standards.
  5. Facilitates regular meetings with the local divisional HSE community to share regulatory updates and best practices.
  6. Assesses and provides evidence to the CHO regarding compliance with HSE and Security fiduciary duties.
  7. Manages environmental risks through leadership and coordination of the ABB Canada Environmental Steering Committee.
  8. Supports legacy site management by liaising with stakeholders to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  9. Coordinates environmental reporting requirements, including PFAS and Plastic Registry submissions.
  10. Implements ABB policies and standards within their area of responsibility.
  11. Ensures their responsibility area is audited and compliant with group and local requirements.
Qualifications for the role
  • University degree in Health, Safety & Environmental or equivalent.
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in HSE functions.
  • Experience in Manufacturing and/or Construction industries.
  • Deep knowledge of HSE legal requirements.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing HSE Management Systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001).
  • Talent management skills.
