Full-Time, Contract (Approximately one year)

London, ON (London Zone)

As a Counsellor in the Substance Use program, you’ll meet clients with empathy, using a strengths-based, harm reduction approach to support their recovery. Through one-to-one and group sessions, you’ll help clients improve their health, social outcomes, and overall quality of life, while providing referrals and connections to other supports and resources for comprehensive wellness.

The successful candidate will split their time between our Woodstock and London locations.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:
  • Starting rate is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential based on regulation ($30.01 per hour for regulated Level 1). Successful candidates registered with professional colleges (e.g., OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the differential. External applicants start at Level 1, with progression up to Level 8 ($34.41 non-regulated, $37.26 regulated). Internal applicants are placed as per the Collective Agreement.
  • Work hours: 70 hours over two weeks, Monday to Friday, including daytime shifts (8:30 am - 4:30 pm) and one evening shift (12 pm - 8 pm).
  • Pension plan: Eligible for optional enrollment in HOOPP immediately.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
  • Providing client-centered care from a harm reduction perspective.
  • Facilitating service navigation through empowerment and advocacy.
  • Providing intake services, assessment, treatment planning, referrals, advocacy, case management, community treatment, and education.
  • Participating in community treatment groups and outreach activities.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements: Must be completed within the last six months. Applicants in London should apply promptly due to processing times (~2 weeks).

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., BSW, diploma in addictions), with proof required during hiring.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to vehicle for client transport.
  • Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Ability to attend work regularly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current professional registration.
  • 3+ years’ experience in addictions or mental health.
  • Experience in substance use treatment, intake, and working with marginalized populations.
  • Knowledge of community resources and barriers.
  • Proficiency in treatment strategies, computer skills, risk assessment.
  • Training in ASIST, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid & CPR.
  • Bilingual in both official languages is preferred.
