Clear Hills Youth Treatment Centre (CHYTC) is inviting applications for a Full-Time Counsellor/Facilitator (CF). This role offers a unique opportunity to support the health and wellness of youth (Warriors) in a treatment setting focused on healing, recovery, and cultural reconnection for youth from Indigenous backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have experience—or a strong interest—in working with Warriors ages 12–17 in a treatment environment. Warriors may attend our program from anywhere in Canada. The Counsellor/Facilitator (CF) in this role will collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team, providing guidance, supervision, teaching, and counselling as part of a holistic approach to care.
CHYTC is a treatment centre that supports up to 10 youth at a time, each with unique needs. We are located 5 minutes from Hythe, Alberta, and approximately 40 minutes from Grande Prairie, Alberta. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Counsellor/Facilitator (CF), reporting to the Executive Director, is responsible for implementing programs and services at the Clear Hills Youth Treatment Center (CHYTC). The CF advocates for and supports Warriors through both individual and group sessions, following program strategies. Acting as a role model, the CF helps Warriors achieve treatment goals and drives program success from planning to execution, ensuring results align with strategic objectives. The CF contributes to CHYTC’s success by effectively carrying out tasks within established policies and procedures.
REQUIRED EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Assist Warriors throughout orientation – welcoming Warriors to the facility and introducing staff, other Warriors, and going over the facility rules and standards.
- Supports Program Manager in the delivery of program objectives and strategies.
- Provides direct support to Warriors in individual and group activities.
- Provides supervision to Warriors when participating in individual and or group activities.
- Provides individual aid to support Warriors in transitioning through program delivery.
- Explains and educates Warriors on safety procedures.
- Assist Warriors in attending ceremonial practices.
- Provides input to recreational planning and coordination.
- Implement rules and regulations of activities to maintain structure and ensure safety.
- Organize, lead, and promote programming also including activities such as crafts, art, sports, and games, and encourage participation.
- Administers and ensures that program delivery and services are delivered, monitored, and managed following applicable program delivery standards and regulations.
- Develop and execute program plans and services, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Monitor and track program progress, identifying risks, issues, and dependencies, and proactively implementing mitigation strategies.
- Provide program status updates and reports to the Program Manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and action plans. Implement program management best practices, methodologies, and tools to drive program success and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, networks, and service providers.
- Write and report incidents of program irregularities and concerns to the Program Manager and assist in strategically resolving matters of concern
- Assists the Program Manager in the development of the annual report exclusive to program and service delivery functions and operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have some university training, including counselling
- 3 or more years or more years related experience
- Clear Criminal Records Check and Clear on Child Welfare Involvement Check
- First Aid Certification
- Open availability to provide shift work (12 hour/4 on 4 off) services to youth
- Ability to work with youth and families from diverse communities
- Possession of Certified Addiction Counsellor’ (CAC II/CCAC) an asset
- Must have experience in facilitating/counselling.
- Extensive knowledge, belief and practice with the holistic model (Medicine Wheel) is an asset.
- Must have excellent communication skills, i.e. public speaking etc.
- Must possess good grammar and writing skills.
- Willing to take training to enhance current skills.
- Must have a valid Drivers License and vehicle.
- Must have Business insurance (SEF 43 Endorsement) to carry passengers.
- Must sign an ‘Oath of Confidentiality’.
- Must sign the CHYTC ‘Code of Ethics’.
- Proficient with reporting procedures.
- Computer skills and knowledge of Office software packages.
- Must have a positive attitude, be able to motivate people and be conscientious in all duties.
- Must always present a professional image.
- Must abide by Clear Hills Youth Treatment Centre Policy and Procedure and Clear Hills Youth Treatment Centre Policies and Procedures Manuals.
- Must be knowledgeable and participate in Emergency Response Procedures and Risk Management.
- Knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing would be an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Travel as required and/or requested.
