Counsellor, Crisis Assessment Team - Strathroy Site

Full-Time, Contract (Ending: June 30, 2025)

When individuals in our community experience an urgent mental health or addictions crisis, they deserve a response that is person-centred and supportive, focusing on personal dignity and wellbeing.

The Crisis Assessment Team program provides immediate, community-based mental health and addictions supports 24/7, offering an alternative to emergency hospital services. As a team member, you will assess and mitigate crises, collaborating on strategies to enhance clients' health and prevent future crises.

Successful candidates must complete a Police Vulnerable Sector Check within the last six months. Applicants residing in London should apply promptly, as PVSC processing takes approximately 3 weeks, and employment offers depend on receipt of this check.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • Starting wage: $27.14/hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with potential increases based on regulation and seniority, up to $37.26/hour for regulated roles.

Work Schedule: 70 hours over two weeks; Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Benefits: 9% in lieu of benefits

Pension: Immediate enrollment in HOOPP

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments, including risk evaluation and crisis management.
  • Build therapeutic relationships to engage clients effectively.
  • Identify and refer clients to community resources.
  • Assess relapse risks and safety concerns for clients and staff.
  • Address barriers to community living.
  • Provide short-term psychotherapeutic interventions.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently in emergencies, respecting client dignity.
  • Apply harm reduction principles.
  • Advocate for clients to access necessary services.
  • Refer for further assessments when needed.
  • Assist clients in connecting with natural supports and resources.
  • Offer short-term follow-up to facilitate engagement with long-term services.
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources, including mental health and addiction services, entitlement programs, and supports.
  • Support clients in developing health management strategies.
  • Collaborate with clients and the team to develop holistic care plans.
  • Provide nonjudgmental support sensitive to diversity.

Reach Out Responsibilities:

  • Deliver crisis intervention via phone, text, and web chat.
  • Respond to voicemails from the Reach Out Crisis line.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with callers to address immediate concerns.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check: Must be completed within six months. London residents are encouraged to apply promptly due to processing times (~2 weeks).

Qualifications:

  • Degree/diploma in health or social sciences, or in progress (original proof required).
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Ability to attend work regularly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registration with a professional college (e.g., OCSWSSW, CNO, CRPO, CPSO, COTO, CPO).
  • Experience in mental health and addictions.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
  • Understanding of therapeutic approaches such as Crisis Intervention, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, and CBT.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Bilingual in both official languages is preferred.
