Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide group and individual counselling sessions addressing substance use issues.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions using evidence-based approaches for relapse prevention, coping skills, and family dynamics.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop personalized recovery plans with clear goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support in acute distress with de-escalation techniques.
  • Educate clients and families about addiction, recovery, and ongoing support.
  • Advocate for needs and rights within the treatment system and community.
  • Maintain confidential records of assessments, progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Support adherence to the Therapeutic Community model.

PROGRAM:Blood Tribe Iitakamotsiipiohsopi Recovery Community (Moses Lake, AB)
REPORTING TO:
Program Manager

SUMMARY OF WORK:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Counsellor will be an integral part of the clinical team, providing individual and group counselling to clients struggling with addiction. The Counsellor will work collaboratively with clients to develop personalized treatment plans, facilitate therapeutic interventions, and support their recovery journey in a compassionate and empowering environment.

General Duties Include:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide group and individual counselling sessions to clients addressing their substance use issues.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions, utilizing our evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address common themes in addiction recovery, such as relapse prevention, coping skills, and family dynamics.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop personalized recovery plans, setting achievable goals and objectives for their recovery journey.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to clients in acute distress, utilizing de-escalation techniques and appropriate interventions to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.
  • Educate clients and their families about addiction, recovery, and the importance of ongoing support and self-care.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of clients within the treatment system and the broader community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Support the delivery and adherence of the Therapeutic Community model.
Professional & Personal Qualities
  • Educational Background:
    • Licensed or certified counsellor.
    • Degree in social work, psychology, counselling psychology or any related fields.
  • Previous experience working in addiction treatment or counselling is preferred
  • Strong understanding of addiction and Therapeutic Communities.
  • Proven experience in maintain professional boundaries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a commitment to helping individuals achieve lasting recovery.
  • Excellent presentation skills and teaching skills
  • Blackfoot Culture knowledge will be an asset
SALARY RANGE:
  • In accordance with the Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. Salary Grid.
