Overview

Job Scope of Costing Engineer (Sheet Metal)

The Costing Engineer for Sheet Metal is responsible for analyzing project specifications and creating accurate cost estimates for sheet metal fabrication. This includes material costs, labor, tooling, and overhead, helping to guide pricing strategies and project bids.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze technical drawings and specifications to determine cost requirements.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates covering material, labor, machine time, and subcontracted processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and production to collect necessary input.
  • Maintain and update costing models and pricing databases.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes and negotiate material and subcontractor pricing when needed.
  • Support the sales and project management team with timely and accurate pricing data.
  • Participate in value engineering initiatives to reduce cost and improve efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Prior experience in cost estimation for sheet metal or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods, materials, and production workflows.
  • Proficiency with costing software, ERP systems, and MS Excel.
  • Analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
