Job description

Leading cost, project management, risk advisory has an immediate opening for an experienced Cost Consultant within the Cost Consulting & Project Management division. Locations in Vancouver BC / Toronto ON / Ottawa ON / Edmonton AB. Salary $80,000 – $130,000. The Cost Consultant will provide a variety of cost estimating consulting services to new and existing clients primarily within residential real estate, and partner with other business units to explore synergy opportunities. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.

Key Responsibilities of Cost Consultant:
  • Provide a full range of cost estimating services to new and existing clients
  • Prepare estimates at various stages of the design process, from conceptual design to pre-tender stage
  • Conduct needs analysis and innovate solutions which meet the client’s unique requirements
  • Completion of design efficiency analysis, along with full trade and elemental take-off
  • Produce benchmarking reports for construction and development costs
  • Pricing of estimates
  • Conduct tender analysis and cost reconciliation exercises
  • Prepare front-end cost reports to support cost estimates
  • Undertaking and completion of periodic site inspections & estimating reports
  • Assist in preparation of change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates
  • The Senior Cost Consultant will maintain ongoing client communication and resolve issues as required. Escalate issues to the next level of management as required.
  • Collaborate with various internal/external partners to obtain the necessary information to prepare proposals/reports
  • Manage client relationships in a manner that leads to contract renewal, referrals and service expansion including up-sells and cross-sells
  • Some overnight travel may be required on an as needed basis
Experience of Cost Consultant
  • The Senior Cost Consultant will have 5+ years of related experience in cost estimating
  • Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related discipline
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Intermediate level of understanding of construction estimates
  • General understanding of residential/ICI/civil projects
  • Experience working at a consulting firm (billable environment) is an asset
  • Member of RICS or LEED accreditation is an asset
  • Understanding of the construction industry – development, contracting & consultant services
  • Excellent knowledge of Sharepoint, Excel, Word, and measurement software
  • Working knowledge of CostX, Revit, AutoCAD, and MS Project is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of CIQS standard method of measurement – elemental/trade, Provincial lien act and Standard contract conditions – CCDC
  • Understanding of various procurement methods and scheduling
  • The Senior Cost Consultant will have the ability to work in a team and independently
  • Intermediate knowledge of trade roles, construction sequencing and building product knowledge
  • Intermediate understanding of MEP
